I haven't lived any one place long. But wherever I am, exploring the mountains, forests and coastlines of the world, and their communities has provided endless opportunities to capture the textures, patterns and colors of my surroundings.
I try to frame the textures and patterns of nature as best I can in my work. When I draw botanic forms, it becomes a study of how light and shadow create these forms on a macro scale.
I try to treat paper as if it's a sculptural material. Paper can create shadows when it is given texture, and shaped to create negative space. I try to use these shadows to showcase the patterns I find in nature.
